HAMISH PUT ME ON PATH TO THE GLEN

Sandy reckons Monarch co-star Hamish Clark, who plays Glenbogle ghillie Duncan, helped him turn his life around.

When BBC casting directors were running hours late at the Monarch auditions, Sandy was prepared to go because he desperately didn’t want to miss his train to Glasgow to see his mum.

For the first time, he reveals how Hamish stopped him from walking out - and helped him land his big break.

Sandy said: ” Jane drove me to the BBC and I had to catch the 5 o’clock train to Glasgow to see my mother.

“There was another actor sitting waiting to go in before me and they were late, as usual, and I was looking at my watch, panicking, saying to Jane, `I’ll need to go, I’m going now’. It was really important to me that I caught that train.

“I got up to leave but the actor next to me suddenly said, `You go in ahead, I’ll wait’. So I did - it was Hamish.

“If he hadn’t done that I wouldn’t have got Monarch, so basically, I owe it all to Hamish but please don’t say that because then I’ll owe him the world.

“I’ve bought him things already. I gave him my John Lennon poster at the end of the last series because he’s a big fan.

“But that’s just the last thing I’ve given him. I’ve thanked him, though. Oh, God, aye.”
