THE MEN OF THE GLEN
TV HIT SHOW MONARCH RETURNS WITH 3 WINTER WARMERS
SUNDAY MAIL (GLASGOW, SCOTLAND)
31 DECEMBER 2000
(NOTE: This is not the complete article, only the part that
mentions Hamish)
Hamish Clark is making the most of his time after finishing
filming Monarch - he jetted off to South Africa on Christmas Day.
And as Scotland shivers in the snow, the 35-year-old - who plays
kilted handyman Duncan - is sunning himself on a beach.
“No snow out here,” he said, laughing.
But Hamish - best known for the Vodafone adverts - reckons he
deserves time out.
He said: “I travelled out at Christmas because it was the only
chance I’ve really had to get some time off.
“We spent five months filming Monarch which was fantastic and a
happy shoot but it was a really long haul.”
Not that he’s complaining. Just six years ago, Hamish, from
Broughty Ferry, near Dundee, was making his living in an
off-licence.
His big acting break came when old university chum Angus
MacFadyen walked into his shop to buy booze - and ended up getting
him a part in the comedy My Wonderful Life. He hasn’t looked back
since.
Hamish said: “Things are going well for me but it was a long time
coming.”
Now Monarch has made him a big acting star.
Hamish said: “I don’t know if there’s going to be a third series
or not but I’d jump at the chance if there was.”
