INTERVIEW WITH HAMISH
Fettes College Prep School (Edinburgh, Scotland)
Spring Term (Jan-Mar) 2002
Monarch of the Glen is filmed in a place near Kingussie. It is
about a family and workers who live in Glenbogle, which is going
bankrupt. We interviewed Hamish Clark who plays the part of Duncan,
who tries to do things well but always ends up in trouble. Monarch
of the Glen is a funny but dramatic drama. We like it because it has
a very good storyline and cast.
PART 1 - By VELOCITY AIREY and LAUREN HOUGHTON
1. What did you first act in on television?
In a show called My Wonderful Life. I played a young doctor with a
girlfriend. We spent every episode moaning at each other.
2. Which members of Monarch of the Glen do you like best?
It would have to be Susan Hampshire. She is a really nice person but
I also like acting with Sandy Morton (Golly).
3. What is your favourite animal?
It would have to be something flashy like a lion or an eagle. I
quite like squirrels because they live up a tree and everyone likes
horses!
4. When you were young was it your ambition to become an
actor?
When I was young I wasn’t sure what I was going to be. I did
consider being an artist. I knew I wouldn’t ever work in an office
because I don’t like doing what people tell me.
5. Who inspired you to start acting?
Strangely enough it was John Lennon and Adam Ant because they were
so cool and full of fun. Even though they were singers! Also Dustin
Hoffman in The Graduate and Jeremy Irons and Anthony Andrews in
Brideshead Revisited.
6. How do you see yourself in ten years time?
Ten years is a long time but I think I will still be on a television
show where the main character can be me! But I would also like to be
in films.
7. What is your favourite colour?
Definitely blue.
8. What has been your favourite part of acting up to date?
It would probably be the part I have in Monarch of the Glen. I
really like Duncan’s character because he is funny. I think comedy
is the cleverest thing to do.
9. Who is your favourite singer?
Well, I like the Beetles and John Lennon. I liked him and Adam Ant.
I like Robbie Williams and I go to the same hairdresser as him!
10.What are your hobbies?
Since I was eight years old right through to university I played
rugby and I did other things like swimming and painting. I quite
like reading and going to the gym but I really just like being up in
the hills of Scotland.
