Dishy telly doc Hamish Clark thought his big break had gone down the pan -when bungling studio hands gave him laxatives.

The unlucky Scot was left foaming at the mouth and trapped in the loo after swallowing the double-strength powder to simulate rabies.

Hamish, 32, from Dundee, stars alongside Blackadder sidekick Tony Robinson as a heart-throb hospital doc in comedy My Wonderful Life which starts tonight.

He said: “There’s a storyline where my character gets bitten by a squirrel -but the damned creature took a chunk out of my hand for real.

“I had to rush off to a proper hospital and get a tetanus jab.

“As a result of the bite Roger believes he’s got rabies - and to make me look like I am foaming at the mouth, the make-up department fed me spoonfuls of what they thought was a harmless stomach-settler.

“What they hadn’t realised was it was actually a very powerful laxative. ”

Hamish added: “I was having lunch when I broke into a cold sweat and wondered what the hell was going on in my belly.

“Within minutes I was charging to the loo, knocking over chairs and tables and screaming at people to get out of my way.

“It was a nightmare - but everyone else thought it was hilarious.”
